Amethyst Lakes Jasper Alberta

Amethyst Lakes located within Jasper National Park Alberta is a set of two connected lakes in the Tonquin area. Both lodges and backcountry campgrounds are available for stays in the area. Boats are for rent as well. The waters in these large lakes are fairly clear and shore fishing is possible if you don't want to rent a boat.

Amethyst Lakes Rainbow Trout

Amethyst Lakes offer both Rainbow and Brook Trout fishing. On my visit the Rainbows were the most active. This is the only rainbow I got to shore (above) measuring in at 19". I did have another on the line as well and some bites which of course I could not identify. The rainbows did jump pretty heavily when hooked.

Amethyst Lakes Brook Trout

This was the only Brook Trout between me and a friend. I expected to catch more of these as usually they are more aggressive but this was not the case. We never measured this guy but it was about 16". Fishing in this lake was a bit on the slower side but generally this is made up for based on the size of the fish.
